Akoko, Ondo State | December 15, 2025
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Monday commenced a statewide “Thank You” tour of local government areas, beginning with the four Akoko councils, as he expressed gratitude to residents for their support and pledged sustained development across the state.
The tour covered Akoko North-West, Akoko North-East, Akoko South-East and Akoko South-West Local Government Areas, where the governor also mobilised grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in Oke-Agbe, headquarters of Akoko North-West Local Government Area, Governor Aiyedatiwa dismissed claims that politicians abandon the electorate after elections, stressing that his visit was not campaign-driven.
“I am here to greet you and thank you. Some people say politicians do not return after elections. I have no election now. I only came to appreciate you all for your support for my administration,” the governor said.
At the Akoko North-West council secretariat, the governor commissioned five utility vehicles for traditional rulers and a bus for the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), describing the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots governance.
Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that he had assured party leaders during the electioneering period that his engagements with communities would be continuous, adding that such visits would enable him to inspect projects and ensure the fulfilment of campaign promises.
He also conveyed the position of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both national and state levels that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
Commending the people of Ondo State for their loyalty to the APC, the governor said the party’s victories across all local government areas and its control of the State House of Assembly reflected public confidence in its leadership.
According to him, ongoing reforms by President Tinubu have driven infrastructural development nationwide and strengthened the APC, attracting defections from other political parties.
In a notable disclosure, Governor Aiyedatiwa revealed that his opponent in the 2024 gubernatorial election, Hon. Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had met with him and resolved to join the APC at a date yet to be announced.
The governor urged party members to embrace unity and avoid internal crises, emphasising that tolerance and cooperation were vital to achieving the party’s objectives ahead of 2027.
“There will be no fight in the party. We will resolve all issues through dialogue, and everyone will be satisfied,” he assured party faithful in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.
He cited the ongoing dualisation of the Ikare–Akungba Road as evidence of development in the Akoko axis, noting that federal reforms had opened new economic opportunities for Ondo State.
In Oka Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, thanked residents and party members for their massive turnout, describing it as a show of confidence in the governor’s leadership.
The tour also took the governor to Isua in Akoko South-East Local Government Area, where he paid homage to residents and appreciated party leaders who accompanied him.
As part of the tour, palliatives were distributed to party members across the local government areas visited.
Members of the governor’s entourage included the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, SAN; Commissioner for Water Resources, Ayodele Akande; Commissioner for Public Sanitation, Physical Planning and Urban Development, Hon. Sunday Olajide; Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Segun Omoyofunmi; and other senior government officials and APC stalwarts.
