A coalition of support groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order an immediate and independent review of alleged credentials irregularities involving the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Asiwaju Media Team, a subsidiary of Podcast News Media, in collaboration with the Coalition of APC Support Groups, the groups expressed concern over what they described as unresolved questions surrounding the Minister’s academic and service records.
According to the statement, lingering issues relate to the Minister’s WAEC certificate, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation, and Certificate of National Service, which the groups said have not been satisfactorily clarified despite Freedom of Information (FOI) requests submitted to the NYSC and other relevant institutions.
The groups alleged that the refusal or failure of the concerned agencies to release the requested records, as required under the FOI Act, has heightened public suspicion and reinforced allegations of possible forgery, misrepresentation, or discrepancies in documents submitted by the Minister to qualify for public office.
They warned that continued silence from both the Minister and relevant institutions could undermine public confidence, weaken institutional credibility, and create a perception of official protection.
The statement stressed that the controversy transcends partisan politics, noting that the Ministry of Interior oversees critical aspects of Nigeria’s internal security architecture, including immigration, citizenship administration, border control, and national identity management systems. The groups further pointed to the planned integration of the National Identification Number (NIN) with banking, financial platforms, and upcoming tax reform policies as reasons the matter should be urgently addressed.
“Allowing unresolved credential related allegations to linger around a minister in charge of such sensitive responsibilities poses potential national security risks,” the statement said, adding that while allegations remain unproven until established by due process, secrecy and institutional silence are incompatible with democratic governance.
The coalition called on President Tinubu and the APC leadership to order an immediate, transparent, and independent review of all credential related concerns surrounding the Minister.
Direct the NYSC, WAEC, and other relevant agencies to comply fully with FOI requests.
Require the Minister to publicly clarify and authenticate his credentials with verifiable documentation.
Reassess his continued oversight of sensitive security and identity related institutions pending the resolution of the allegations.
The groups cautioned that unresolved allegations of forgery against any appointee could harm the President’s legacy, weaken the APC, and erode public trust, urging early and decisive action in the interest of accountability and transparency.
The statement was signed by Prince Emorioloye Owolemi, Director General of the Asiwaju Media Team, on behalf of the Coalition of APC Support Groups, who described the intervention as a move by party loyalists and defenders of the renewed hope agenda seeking to protect the credibility of the APC, the Renewed Hope Agenda, and the Nigerian state.
