Akure, Ondo State – January 31, 2026
As part of activities marking the golden jubilee of Ondo State, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Saturday led a 5-kilometre health walk in Akure, emphasising that a sound body and a strong spirit are fundamental to healthy living and effective public service.
The exercise, which commenced at the Government House in Alagbaka and was terminated at the Akure Township Stadium, drew a large turnout of civil servants, political appointees, party members and residents of the state, who participated enthusiastically in the walk.
Speaking at the Township Stadium after the exercise, Governor Aiyedatiwa underscored the importance of physical fitness and spiritual renewal, describing both as essential pillars for personal wellbeing and productive service to society.
Drawing inspiration from biblical teachings, the governor noted that those who wait upon God renew their strength, adding that the successful completion of the walk by participants without any reported incident was a testament to resilience and collective commitment to healthy living.
According to him, the health walk formed a key component of the Ondo State at 50 anniversary programme, stressing that the human body, which houses the soul and spirit, must be kept in good condition to function optimally.
Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that regular physical exercise enhances cardiovascular health, improves breathing and promotes overall wellbeing, warning that a weak or unhealthy body could negatively affect both mental balance and spiritual vitality.
He expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout and the smooth conduct of the exercise, noting with delight that no injuries were recorded throughout the event.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the spokesperson to the Governor of Ondo State, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor also commended members of the Ondo State at 50 anniversary planning committee, led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Taiwo Fasoranti, for their coordination and commitment to a successful celebration.
He announced that activities marking the golden jubilee would continue on Sunday with a thanksgiving service scheduled to hold at St. Thomas Church, Akure.
Members of the State Executive Council, top government functionaries and party faithful joined the governor on the walk, while residents who trooped out in large numbers expressed excitement and solidarity with the jubilee celebrations.
