The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has formally affirmed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in the state, citing the party’s long standing internal structure and constitutional practice.
Yilwatda disclosed that he personally directed the Rivers State APC Chairman, Tony Okocha, to issue membership card number 001 to Governor Fubara, a move he described as consistent with the party’s standing order.
“I instructed my State Chairman in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, to issue 001 membership to Governor Fubara,” Yilwatda said.
According to the APC national chairman, the party’s position is clear across the federation, as all serving governors on the party’s platform are recognized as the leaders of the APC in their respective states.
“This is the standing order of our great party. All the state governors are the leaders of our party in the state,” he stated.
Reinforcing his position, Yilwatda declared unequivocally that Governor Fubara is the undisputed leader of the APC in Rivers State, while emphasizing the party’s ideological identity.
“Fubara is the leader of our party in Rivers State. We are Progressives,” he added.
The APC chairman further assured party members and stakeholders of his readiness to collaborate with the Rivers State governor in the interest of unity and progress. “I will work with Fubara,” Yilwatda said.
The statement is expected to shape internal party dynamics in Rivers State, amid ongoing political realignments and leadership debates within the APC. It also signals the national leadership’s commitment to enforcing party hierarchy and cohesion across states governed by the party.
